Neruda pays only loose tribute to the sonnet by employing a 14-line structure for each poem. As he says, his sonnets are made of wood, rather than the "silver, or crystal, or cannonfire" of a more refined sonnet. Neruda's humility is apparent as he refers again and again to the natural landscape of Isla Negra (the Pacific island where he and his wife lived) to describe his simple dedication to Matilde: "...I am like a scorched rock / that suddenly sings when you are near, because it drinks / the water you carry from the forest, in your voice."
Journeying from the erotic celebration of the body to the spiritual depths of eternal union, 100 Love Sonnets shows why "two happy lovers make one bread" and "waking, they leave one sun empty in their bed."

Pablo's love poems are beautiful, descriptive and sensual and I highly recommend this book. It is dedicated to his wife Matilde and the dedication paragraph he's written for her at the front of the book is beautiful and poetic even though it's not a poem, he has a wonderful way of putting things, like no one else can.
There is an index of 1st lines at the back of the book and everything is in both English and Spanish.
The book is divided into chapters: Morning, Afternoon, Evening and Night and as always his poems are influenced by nature and love, a beautiful combination!
Other love poetry books I recommend are "The Poetry of Passion (for People with a Pulse)" by Juliette Westbrook-Finch which contains some sensual poems and some humorous in a rhyming style and I also recommend 2 other books of Pablo's (Links below)

I am a huge fan of Pablo's and have 7 of his books, his love poems are second to none, he writes with such emotion, his way with words is breathtaking and he writes with passion and his poems are sensual, romantic and beautiful.
With lines like "Your body is smooth as stones in the water;
your kisses are clusters of fruit, fresh with dew" you will be transported into dreamland!
I highly recommend his love poems and this is one of my favourite books of his along with "love poems" and 20 love poems and a song of despair"
It is also handy that his book is in English and Spanish with the English version of the poem on the right hand page and the Spanish on the left hand page (very handy if you're learning Spanish!)

This was a Valentine's day gift for a significant other who has taught himself Spanish. I appreciated that the book had both the English and Spanish version of each poem on facing pages. That is a great learning tool. It is also great for people who love to see how someone interpreted the translation part of the equation.
The shipper was nice and responsive.
