Amazon.com Product Description

The first Multi-Touch Trackpad designed to work with your Mac desktop computer, the Apple Magic Trackpad lets your fingers do the clicking, scrolling, and swiping. The Apple Magic uses the same Multi-Touch technology found on the MacBook Pro, giving you a whole new way to control and interact with what's on your screen. Swiping through pages online feels just like flipping through pages in a book or magazine. Inertial scrolling makes moving up and down a page more natural than ever. And users can press down anywhere on the Multi-Touch surface to physically click or double-click on an item--no clumsy buttons involved.

The Largest Multi-Touch Trackpad Ever

The Apple Magic Trackpad responds to a variety of finger gestures for clicking, scrolling, and swiping.
The Magic Trackpad is just like the trackpad on the MacBook Pro--but bigger. It's made with the same advanced touch-friendly and wear-resistant glass surface, but with nearly 80 percent more area. This gives you even more room to scroll, swipe, pinch, and rotate to your fingers' content. And because the entire surface is a button that clicks, you can use it in place of a mouse without losing a hint of functionality. The Magic Trackpad's full set of gestures includes two-finger scrolling, pinching to zoom, rotating with your fingertips, three-finger swiping, and activating Expose or switching between applications with four fingers.

Plus, the trackpad is customizable. Simply access the Magic Trackpad pane in System Preferences to enable gestures you want and disable those you don't.

Seamless Wireless Design

The Magic Trackpad fits in perfectly with your Mac desktop, with the same sculpted aluminum design as the Apple Wireless Keyboard. In fact, side by side the two sit flush at the same angle and height. This lets you go from trackpad to keyboard in a single motion, or do both at the same time. How perfect is that?

The Magic Trackpad connects to your Mac via Bluetooth wireless technology, so you don't have to deal with an annoying cable that dictates where you place it. Once you pair the Magic Trackpad with your Bluetooth-enabled Mac, you'll enjoy a reliable, secure connection up to 33 feet away. In addition, the Magic Trackpad detects periods of inactivity, with an automatic shutoff feature that saves battery life. As an alternative, you can turn it off yourself. Both options keep you gesturing for months at a time.

The Magic Trackpad--which can work in place of a mouse or in conjunction with the mouse on any Mac computer (even a notebook)--requires a Bluetooth-enabled Mac computer, two AA batteries (included), Mac OS X Snow Leopard v 10.6.4, and the latest software update.

The trackpad sits flush with the Apple Wireless Keyboard, making it easy to switch between the two.

good addition to Imac, 2010-09-06

Por I. Siddiqui(IAS)

I think it is good addition to Magic mouse on Imac, with combination of these 2 one could use Imac with out any strain on palm. Gestures and tap is best as there is no effort required for click, i use mouse when i need to drag anything as i have not mastered it on trackpad. Battery life is good (Eneloop rechargeable batteries are must if you have Imac 6 batteries required between KB, Mouse and TrackPad). If you are using MBP it is very easy transition. it is not expensive if consider the functionality.
Setting it up was extremely easy, pair with Imac and setup trackpad movement according to your likes, I have no problem using it on 27 inch Imac screen, i wish there could be some gesture to go back and forward on web pages. Trackpad best use in Iphoto it makes the editing process very fast with less strain on palm.

i would recommend this product.

Pretty and innovative, but not quite right for me, 2010-09-05

Por Jim Gerdy(jjg)

I am a big trackpad fan and love the Apple laptop trackpads on the MacBook and the Pro. The sensitivity, multi-touch, and tapping are all just right for my touch and I have a great user experience with these portables. I think Apple achieved the same feel with this magic trackpad.

However the problem I have is I think lining it up with the keyboard, side by side with the same slant and such, is not the best configuration. It looks good because it lines up and has a matching batter compartment and slope, but does not give me the advantage I get from laptop trackpads.

What I mean is that laptop pointing devices let you keep both hands in typing position while accessing a pointer (joystick or trackpad) with a thumb. So my preference is to take the magic trackpad and put it in front of the keyboard (reversed so the thick part is toward me) rather than beside the keyboard. This almost allows me to keep both hands in one place as I do on the laptop. But unfortunately the slope is wrong. If the trackpad were flat then I could come closer to the laptop experience.

As it is the product is not bad. It's no worse than using a mouse, the usual desktop experience of moving your hand from the keyboard to use the pointing device. But in that case I prefer my magic mouse that has both the multi-touch and the mouse that I am just used to while using a desktop.

I think Apple made an interesting innovation here and a very good looking product (as usual). I just give it a star short of perfect because I see it as a bit of a gimmick (against my magic mouse) and I think a little more thoughtfulness would have made something closer to the laptop trackpad experience, which I find far more convenient. Maybe in time I will get used to this new tracking device, but so far I have stuck with the magic mouse and the trackpad sits by the wayside looking petty.

Track Pad, 2010-09-01

Por John E. Buckley

I had to wait for this trackpad to return to stock after first trying it in the store.

I have used it for a week and I am impressed with the deep features offered with the multi touch pad.
I previously used a mighty mouse and I find it to be a significant upgrade. I had to clean the trackball every month or two to improve scrolling responsiveness.

The usual two finger scrolling is easy. I save considerable effort with the three finger swipe for web browsing and the 4 finger expose and app switching. I like the pinch to zoom feature which I find more cumbersome from the keyboard.

I will confess I am not always careful with my finger placement and get what I asked for but not what I intended! I have a hard time blaming the device for my inexperience, maybe others are more pained by the learning curve. I expect my integration of its features will improve more with time.

I think the price is a bit high at $69, although I noted the installation software download was 75 Mb. I would happily pay $69 to avoid typing that (not to mention the programming).

HTH,
John B.

I Like It, 2010-08-31

Por Vivaldi Guy

But maybe not as the sole input device. Basically the Magic Trackpad replicates the trackpad on a new generation Apple laptop. It is considerably bigger and nicely matches my new iMac keyboard. The increased size also makes gesture based control more effective. It does some things well , some things not as well as the Magic Mouse. So I use both, which saves on repetitive wrist strain. I don't think it adds a lot to a laptop but works very well with the desktop iMac. I haven't tried it using Windows- only Mac OS 10.6 and then mostly for web surfing.
One complaint is that the "push on the pad to click" is a bit stiff, requiring too much pressure to activate.

Just like my MacBook Pro trackpad! Love it, 2010-08-31

Por Christopher Coogan

After finally finding the additional download and updating my software, I am totally in love this trackpad! Works just like the trackpad on my MacBook Pro! Now my workspace is seamless and all my gestures are consistent between trackpad and laptop. Exactly what I wanted, even before I knew it was an option. Thanks Apple! Now I just need to find a graveyard to bury my so-called "magic" mouse, ugh!

BTW, my trackpad arrived in great condition, new box, all sealed and wrapped up, just like new. No shipping/packaging problems here!
